Dr. Jennifer Kouo

Jennifer Kouo is an Assistant Research Scientist. Jennifer’s areas of expertise include Universal Design for Learning, technology integration, assistive technologies, and serving students with a range of disabilities, particularly autism spectrum disorder. She is currently engaged in multiple research projects that involve transdisciplinary collaborations in the field of engineering, medicine, and technology, as well as research on teacher preparation and the conducting of evidence-based practices in multiple contexts. Jennifer’s publications appear in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, Review Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, Focus on Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities, Journal of Science Education for Students with Disabilities, and Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research.


Before joining the Johns Hopkins School of Education, Jennifer was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education at Towson University. Prior to joining higher education, she was a special education teacher at the Kennedy Krieger School: Fairmount Campus. Dr. Kouo holds a B.S. in Integrated Elementary and Special Education from Towson University, an M.S. in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. in Special Education with an emphasis in severe disabilities and autism spectrum disorders from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Dr. Jinjuan Heidi Feng

Is a professor at the Computer and Information Sciences Department at Towson University. She conducts research in the areas of Human-Computer Interaction, Accessible Computing and Health-informatics. She works with national and local communities to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities through information technology. Her current research projects focus on assistive technologies for people with cognitive disabilities, mobile applications for healthcare related services, and accessible security techniques for individuals with visual or cognitive disabilities. Dr. Feng has served as the program co-chair for the 23rd International ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility (ASSETS21) and the general chair for ASSETS16. She is associate editor for the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies and the ACM Transactions on Accessible Computing. As the Director of the School of Emerging Technologies at Towson University from 2015 to 2021, she promoted interdisciplinary research and curriculum development through collaboration both within and beyond Towson University.

Dr. Ziying Tang

Is an Associate Professor at the Computer and Information Sciences Department at Towson University. Her research areas include Assistive Technology, Multimedia and Interactive Media, Mobile Health, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Game and Animation, Computer Graphics and Vision. She is interested in using computer technology to improve the quality of life of people with cognitive disabilities. Her work of using mobile technology to support stroke survivors has achieved Innovator of the Year Award by Maryland Daily Record.
